Blogs Kill WHITE HOUSE DOWN Opening

NEW ORLEANS (Gazette) — Obi-Wan Kenobi is probably who was needed to help WHITE HOUSE DOWN and Jamie Foxx in its opening weekend. It opened 4th with $24M while Monsters University took in $140.9M at #1 for second week in a row. Conservative bloggers hurt the opening because they denounced its central theme of US withdrawal from Iraq. US military veteran Kurt Schlichter at wrote, “Repeat after me, conservatives: not one damn cent.” WHITE HOUSE DOWN’s plot centers on an assault on the White House by a paramilitary group angry at US withdrawal from Iraq, a storyline that has gone down like a lead balloon with those on the right. Schlichter wrote to conservatives, “Do not spend one damn cent on this crap.”

By the way, I saw MONSTERS UNIVERSITY because my grandkids were waiting on it for weeks. So, I actually helped propel WHITE HOUSE DOWN to its lowly #4 rating. This was truly a disappointing opening for the movie which was expected to be a huge summer blockbuster. The kids came out en masse for the monsters did the grownup kids like me :).
